PUBLIC REALM DIAGRAM
Sussex Avenue becomes an extension of the Beresford Art Walk. Kingsborough Street, due to its location and orientation, is proposed to be the green connector that will link the site and its users to the parks and open space beyond the boundaries of Metropolis.
Central Boulevard and Kingsborough Street will cross Sussex Avenue, creating an organized grid of pedestrian and vehicle connections and open spaces throughout the site. Sussex Avenue and McMurray Street follow the flow of watersheds, providing opportunity to create watershed streets that highlight best practices in rainwater management and add a natural enhancement to the public realm.
Pedestrian permeability is further improved by introducing indoor/outdoor connectivity through the shopping centre, where internal spaces start to function as indoor streets and provide convenient and unique linkages.
Sussex Avenue is the main north-south route through the site and is adjacent to key open space areas and the new public park. The southern extent of Sussex adjacent to Central Boulevard is intended to be an area that can be programmed for street festivals, food trucks and performances.
